JEFFREY
ZEINER
JEFFREY
ZEINER - Jeffrey
prepares the contemporary actor for the contemporary marketplace. Using
a disciplined improvisational approach, he inspires the actor to use the
script as the vehicle for his own dramatic imagination. To be dependent
upon the author's drama, but NOT to be dependent upon the dialogue:
“The dialogue never does the acting—the actor does!”
Mr. Zeiner
writes his own classes, offering dramatic outlines giving the actor
valuable opportunities to recognize, commit to, and play the drama of
the script without dialogue dependency.
He has an
impressive list of students who are currently working in film,
television and on stage. Included are students starring on soaps and
recipients of Broadway's Theatre World Award. His technique prepares the
actor for all media, but especially equips the artist to give powerfully
gripping performances on camera with minimal rehearsal.
Jeffrey
Zeiner brings to his teaching a varied and interesting background in the
theatre. He spent 13 years as a successful New York talent agent, has
extensive experience as a casting director, producer, director, and as
an actor. He currently directs his dramatic improv company in compelling
theatrical events rich in elements of drama and social significance.
Personal
Philosophy: "The script dialogue NEVER does the acting... YOU DO!...It's
how the actor works with the script. It needs to be an inspiration for your
imagination. Tennessee Williams doesn't do the acting, but he gives you the
inspiration to act. I help the actor recognize what is dramatic, what is
theatrical, what is of interest to the audience, In the simplest term: to
think like an actor. And whether it's THE GLASS MENAGERIE or the three
pages you have for your soap audition that's your script; your source of
inspiration. You HAVE TO make choices and commitments and you must involve
me in acting choices, not in dialogue. That's what has the impact; that's
what the audience will remember...how you make them feel."
And what people say about him:
"Jeffrey Zeiner prepares the actor from the audition through the performance
with stunning results. In my experience he is the best teacher in New York."
- Frank Zagottis, Former Mgr. of DVD Operations, HBO
"I have been with Mr. Zeiner for approximately one year. One of the most
exciting moments for me came in my first semester of class. As I got up to
work, I was nervous, intimidated and feeling defeated about the difficulty I
was having in connecting with the character. Mr. Zeiner calmly helped me to
make an acting choice that enabled me to connect not only with my role, but
also with the other actor on stage. It was unbelievable! It was magic! I was
no longer self-conscious. I was on-stage with a true sense of purpose; I was
listening, seeing and reacting all in character.
I have become more involved both emotionally and physically in work and the
growth in my own confidence as an actor is undeniable. Mr. Zeinerąs patience
and ability to teach are priceless." - Kavin M. Coleman
"One of the most important things I have learned from Jeffrey is the
importance of grounding and fleshing out any characterization with specific
details. He also stresses and teaches how to make strong and useful choices
as quickly as possible. In essence, You are learning how to pay attention to
what is given to you as well as learning more about yourself, your
instrument, and how to use them more fully in performance.
Jeffrey has pushed me to do scenes I didnąt think myself capable of. In
doing so, I believe I have grown as an actress, matured as a confident
professional and had the time of my life doing it." - Allison Cahill
