ABOUT WB

The Weist-Barron School was founded in 1956 when Bob Barron met Dwight Weist. Incredible as it seems now, at the time it was almost impossible to find good actors to perform in the then new industry of On-Camera Performance, and most importantly, projecting their individual personality. The course was an immediate success,  and has since launched innumerable Commercial actors into successful careers.

BOB BARRON: Senior member of the Directors Guild of America. Bob won many awards for writing and directing commercials and industrials, and was a Producer/Director at N.W. Ayer Advertising Agency. In addition to directing stars in commercials and on network programs in Hollywood and New York, he also coached leading business and political figures for TV appearances. Bob's most enduring legacy is his contribution to the creation of Weist-Barron.

DWIGHT WEIST: For many years the president of Screen Actors Guild. A nationally known television and radio announcer (18 years on Search For Tomorrow) his thousands of voice-over credits included newscasting for NBC and WOR. As a popular radio Soap Opera performer he appeared on the famous Orson Wells Mercury Theatre Of The Air, We The People, and The March Of Time. In later years he did narration for the films, The Name Of The Rose and Zelig, and appeared in 9 1/2 Weeks. Dwight was an active instructor in the school he helped create until his death in 1991.

Weist-Barron

TODAY...

Is known for its Film Technique, Soap Opera and Voice-Over training, and has expanded to include both Basic and Advanced Acting Technique and Scene Study. Many specialized classes have been added such as Newscasting, Audition Technique and Acting For Musical Theatre. The COMMERCIAL COURSE ,that was the schools beginning, is recognized today as the blueprint for all on-camera training, and is constantly revised to keep up with the current trends. The philosophy "Instruction ... Practice ... Exposure", created by Bob Barron and Dwight Weist, is still carried on, and is the basic element of all the programs the school offers.

In addition to our training, the school functions as a source of business information needed in today's competitive market, offering professional guidance and counseling. Actors can receive leads on such basics as headshots, photographers and resumes. Advanced career planning is available to any alumni by appointment.

WB CASTING

Weist-Barron expanded to include an in-house casting office in 1986. Casting Director Valerie Adami specializes in on-camera commercials, corporate films and voice-over. Clients include PFIZER, SONY, MADISON SQUARE GARDEN PROMOTIONS, DUPONT, IBM, KEEPSAKE JEWELERS, MASTER CARD and McCALLS to name a few. We cast both union and non-union and see actors through agent submission but also casts from files.

Although no guarantees of employment are made, WB students are encouraged to keep up-dated headshots in our files.
